… after a while they all look like shopping centres
Changi airport after a 8 hours in the air, will be 2 hours in transit here, then flying out to Chennai. Walking in the wrong direction for half a lap looking for this lounge, and then back around again. Was a thoroughly entertaining and chatty flight that covered conversational ground from the future of music to the future of the planet. Well catered, and with two hours sitting around in Singapore with no local currency, I’m very glad for that: Popped 3 oversweet reds, a strange fried rice, biscuits, cheese, salmon, a stir fry, 2 average coffees and a picnic bar.
Now mauled by malls in a shoppers paradise. Discovery channel in one ear giving me the lowdown on north sea crab fishing, nameless orchestrated christmas carols padding out the sound space … in the middle, me. When I look down the hall, it seems infinite in both direction like a changing room with mirrors on opposing walls. I know that I’ve moved somewhere else because the paging and announcements are in 3 languages … though still mainly english. It’s x-mas and everybody talks visa, the common denominator, the world card. Now scientists are on the trail of one of the worlds best kept secrets. I may have to leave before I discover it. But with luck it’ll be covered by the inflight media machinery.
I’ve only gone on to Sydney, and I just hadn’t realized how fiercely competitive traffic had become since I was last here. Check out the sort of cars you have to drive to survive around here.
I’d been contemplating making mods to my van similar to this, but that was just for getting out of pay car parks.
